Printed materials

Projects for Windows for Beginners. Ages 10 and up. This book covers easy projects, such as changing a screen saver and customizing the desktop, and goes on to using Paintbrush to design screen wallpaper and making one's own mouse pad. Step-by-step explanations with illustrations and photographs are provided. The book is based on Windows 3.1 but includes instructions on adapting the projects to other versions, such as Windows 95. KidDesk Plus. Grades K-6. This is a hard-disk security and menuing program that makes it safe, easy, and fun for students to operate the computer independently. Harcourt Brace.

Student Writing Center. Grades 4 or 5 and up. This software for Macintosh and Windows combines word processing and desktop publishing with student features such as tips for writing research papers, grammar tips, personal journal to organize writing, bibliography maker, and title page maker. The word processor includes a spelling checker, a thesaurus, footnotes and endnotes, and headers and footers. The desktop publisher includes page layout with up to 8 columns, automatic text wrap around graphics, special border and shading effects, text boxes for placing a customized box of text anywhere on a page, over 30 specially designed letterheads and sign borders, and over 150 clip-art pictures. Step by Step Series. Grades 6-12. This series of texts with disks uses a step-by-step approach to show students how to master leading software programs. Separate software is available for Windows 95, WordPerfect 6.0, dBase IV, Lotus 1-2-3, Dos 6, and Microsoft Works 3.0. Glencoe/McGraw-Hill.

Danny Goodman's Educational Series for the Macintosh. Grades 6-12. These hands-on, step-by-step separate text-with-disk guides to Microsoft Works, Concepts, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Quarkxpress are one-quarter semester or one semester courses. Word Perfect Made Perfectly Easy and Desktop Publishing Using Word Perfect. These texts and text-workbooks with data disks provide step-by-step instructions, and there are many exercises to guide the student. Quizzes and tests are also provided. Glencoe/McGraw-Hill.
