A Good Breakfast

Alternative to Postum

Alternative to Postum

If you are a Postum fan, you have been disappointed that Postum is no longer on the market. Here is an alternative to Postum (pictured above):
Boil a cup of water in the microwave (I use the small pitcher pictured above).
Add to a coffee cup: a heaping teaspoonful of Pero (available from Amazon), a level teaspoonful of coffee creamer, 1/4 teaspoonful of sugar, and a dash of nutmeg. Similar to Pero is Inka, available at Inka from Adamba.
Pour the boiling water into the coffee cup. Add some milk and stir.
You can cook an egg in its shell in the microwave. Pierce the blunt end of a very large egg with a pin, place it uncovered in a cup, and microwave for 65 seconds. If you cook for longer, it might explode. Lay it aside for awhile and then cut it open carefully in the sink (in case it explodes). Empty the egg contents into a cup and microwave some more if needed.

Better yet: boil for 7 minutes.

Whole-grain cereal
Add 1/2 cup of water to 2 coffee scoops (1/4 cup) of oatmeal in a LARGE cereal bowl. Microwave for 2-3/4 minutes (or 6 minutes at half power).

For flavor add
-1 heaping teaspoonful of sugar
-some milk
-some nut pieces or nuts (pecans, walnuts), available at Trader Joe's and Harris Teeter
My favorite cold cereals are Clusters (General Mills), Granola Nut and Honey (Aurora), and Great Grains with Pecans (Post).

To keep Mr. Coffee coffee pot from dripping brewed coffee down the sides of the coffee pot, pull on the stopper of the basket and rinse the drain hole after removing the coffee grounds.
