To occupy the mind, a saying has to be repeated many times in sequence. A saying is useful only when appropriate.
The sayings are all quotations. When you say "you," you address another part of yourself.
Mercy! Stop! Enough!
You are okay. It is the scorners who are not okay.
(addressing the source of a bad feeling/mood directly) Who are you, and what is your purpose?
Mindful breathing overrides suffering.
(during meditation) Afloat in the current of space-time
Withdraw. Withdraw. Withdraw. (as if putting down your fists)
You are more tolerant of other people than you are of yourself. (A person's mind doesn't change until he or she starts objecting to his or her own self-mistreatment.)
I live in an atmosphere of my own kindness and forgiveness.
Everything is inevitable. (This recognition, which we call forgiveness, is the heart of spirituality.)
Life's greatest word: equal. Not only are others equal to you, but you are equal to them, as well.
Choose life, not the having lived. You are alive to the continuous newness of existence.
It is up to you to stand by your own conclusions, to make up your mind in your own favor, to be intolerant of your own self-harassment, to be decisive in your own behalf, to come down on your own side.
The more significant one's present is, the less significant one's past becomes.
Who are you? You are a living organism, a self, functioning in the present. You see, you hear, you smell, you taste, you feel. At the same time, you are continuously self-directing.
A person is not a unity. You are composed of many parts.
Do what is called for by circumstances. Let your mind provide insights. You are alive.
You might not know what to do next, but your body knows. Your body is a genius.
Leaving the facts behind, leaving the facts behind, leaving the facts behind . . .
Your mind is absolutely private.
You are separate. You are safe.
Your life is only your own, not anyone else's.
All you can take is what you get. Do the best with what you've got. What have you got? Only what is, here, now.
You are in Nature/life, not apart from it. (Self-importance is a delusion. Everything was (and is and will be) inevitable.)
Whether you were right, justified, and innocent, on the one hand, or wrong, not justified, and guilty, on the other hand, doesn't matter. Only the facts remain.
You are totally created by Nature/life. Allow your egotism (self-importance/experiencing yourself subjectively) to collapse. Experience yourself objectively.
You didn't create that [thought, feeling].
What happens is Nature's way. (Everything that a person does is natural. If it weren't natural, it wouldn't exist. We cannot overrule the processes of Nature/life. Everything was, is, and will be inevitable, in accordance with the ways of Nature. Einstein's, or anyone else's, insights are all the workings of Nature/life.)
All thoughts and feelings arise from pools of originations in the mind. We live moment by moment with these thoughts and feelings.
Truth is the offspring of silence and unbroken meditation. (Isaac Newton)
That thought/feeling/mood has risen to the surface (emerged into consciousness).
Please, go back, all of you (global rejection of all harassing thoughts). I entertain the possibility that I can reform my pool of originations.
Stop! Enough! [Instead of continuing to suffer] I smell the air.
That thought is unfriendly. You need a friendly, kind, supportive subconscious.
You have within you a reserve of kindness, both for yourself and for others. You have within you a reserve of compassion, both for yourself and for others. You have within you a reserve of forgiveness, both for yourself and for others. You have within you a reserve of mercy, both for yourself and for others.
You might wish that it weren't so, but it is. You can acknowledge reality. Don't deny it. It is in Nature.
You might wish that it were so, but it isn't. You can acknowledge reality. Don't deny it. It is in Nature.
That is just a thought.
You are agonizing/obsessing/worrying. Thinking can't change reality.
You are repeating yourself.
You are feeling terror, horror, pain, a breach, you are feeling terror, horror, pain, a breach, you are feeling terror . . .
You are suffering a wave of bad feeling.
You are feeling unwanted, you are feeling unwanted, you are feeling unwanted, . . . (disliked, isolated, lonely)
You are feeling sexual attraction, you are feeling sexual attraction, you are feeling sexual attraction, . . . (when bothered by intrusive sexual interest)
You are responsible for imposing your own philosophy on yourself. Be a leader of the unfortunates. Disrespect the scorners.
Pain/hurt-feelings lead to self-consciousness, which leads to aloneness, which leads to sexual attraction
"What are you doing?" "Breathing/walking." "What are you consciously experiencing?" "My breathing/walking." "Good."
You have a right to your opinion.
No two people are the same. (You are not like that (other person whom you envy). You can only be the person you got.)
(When trying to fall asleep) I look for dream images. I sleep. I dream.
Begin again, with compassion.
